The Portland Sharkfest Swim

The inaugural Portland Sharkfest Swim is an open water swimming event scheduled to take place in the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon. The inaugural swim was was cancelled and rescheduled for 2024.

The course is set to start and finish next to the Portland Fire & Rescue Station 21. Participants swim a 1-mile course downriver, passing under the center span of the Morrison St. Bridge, continuing toward the Burnside Bridge, and then returning beneath the eastern span of the Morrison Bridge.

The water temperature at race time is expected to be in the high 60s. Safety will be provided by Northwest River Guides. Spectators can watch the swim from the Eastbank Esplanade, with an awards ceremony in the plaza area.

Note that this swim is intended for experienced open-water swimmers, and participants are required to be able to swim one mile comfortably in a pool in under 40 minutes.
