The Coeur d’Alene Crossing

The Coeur d’Alene Crossing is an annual point-to-point open water swim race that crosses Lake Coeur d’Alene in the beautiful Idaho panhandle.

Participants can choose between a 1.2 mile and a 2.4 mile race distance.

2.4 mile swimmers

2.4 racers take a ferry from Hagadone Event Center out to Arrow Point on the other side of the lake. The race starts on on small beach and follows a route across the lake marked by giant colored buoys. It’s an unavoidably crowded race start but don’t worry, racers start to spread out a couple of hundred meters from the shore.

2.4 mile participants have 70 minutes to reach the half way mark or they will be pulled from the lake for safety reasons.

1.2 mile swimmers

1.2 mile racers take a later ferry and jump off at the half-way point of the course. Arguably more fun for less work. The finish line for both distances is the beach at the Hagadone Event Center.

The Coeur d’Alene Crossing benefits various local swimming charities and organizations. If you only want to make a donation, you can do so by clicking ‘reserve a spot’ .

Coeur d’Alene

Coeur d’Alene is a charming town with quaint shops, cafes and restaurants, galleries, and the type of relaxed vibe you’d expect from a lake town. You should definitely explore once the race is over if time allows.

Lake Coeur d’Alene itself is huge and there are tons of incredible campgrounds right on its shores. The lake water is warm and clean and it’s a very special place swim. If you have the family with you, there are many roped swimming beaches, some with lifeguards. Wild swimming adventures abound, so it’s well worth taking the tent for a few starry nights in paradise.
