Swimmers on the Chester River with a sailboat in the distance, racing in the Maryland Swim for Life open water swim

Maryland Swim for Life

Maryland Swim for Life is an annual multi-race, USMS-sanctioned open water swim event held by the District of Columbia Aquatics Club in the Chester River in Chestertown, Maryland.

The event is a charity fundraiser and raises money for several small local organizations and nonprofits assisting individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as the Chester River Association which advocates for the health of the Chester River.

There are one-mile, two-mile, three-mile, four-mile, and five-mile races, as well as a ‘2.4km Triathlon Challenge Swim’.

Jellyfish are found in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries and there are occasional encounters in the summertime. While they can exist in the river near the event their appearance is rare. It’s best to stay up to date on the latest river conditions regarding jellyfish, water quality and more on the Maryland Swim for Life Facebook page.
