Lake George Open Water Swim, Hague NY

Lake George Open Water Swim is an annual swimming event held in the pristine waters of Lake George, in Hague, New York.

Lake George is an incredible venue in the heart of the Adirondack region of New York State, with unspoilt wilderness views and crystalline water quality. The swim has a long history, with open water swim races taking place there as far back as the 1920s.

The swimming event hosts three races: a 2.5K race, a 5K race, and a 10K race. There are awards for the top three swimmers overall, for both male and female, as well as for the top three in each age group. Racers are also further split into wetsuit/ non-wetsuit categories. USMS policies are followed to determine what counts as wetsuit VS non-wetsuit. There is a strict time limit, depending on race distance, and racers will be pulled from the water if they do not make the cutoff.

The Lake George Open Water Swim also has an excellent virtual race category so you can participate from your local pool or wherever you swim. This virtual swim is way cooler than the average virtual swim, as you can obtain digital badges of honour to publish in your social media profiles and mark your progress through the eight-week program as you progress via landmarks on Lake George.

Proceeds from the race go to the Lake George Association, a charity dedicated to preserving the pristine water quality of the lake. You can donate to the association here.

Hague is a beautiful village at the far end of Lake George. It is super family friendly, with public beach, and a roped swim zone for the kids with life-guards.

The town of Lake George and the surrounding Adirondack region is a picturesque destination well worth exploring once the race is complete. The untamed shores of Lake George provide an endless source of wild swimming adventures, miles of mountain trails in old-growth forest, and glorious solitary coves.
